IAMAW Local Lodge 412 News  Domtar Ottawa- Gatineau6/12/2005After about a year and a half of negotiating a new collective agreement, on November 30' 05, Domtar has seen fit to tell us that our papermachines in the Ottawa sector are not in a positive cash flow situation. Just as anaside Domtar at the same time announced the complete closure of it's Cornwall production, after reducing is production in the spring and laying off approx 300 employees. This Cornwall closure affects about 900 employees and other businesses in the area including some of our 412 members working in shops in the city. We are currently in negotation with Domtar to close the mill. Sad days for all as only the allmigty dollar is the bottom line!!!!!! Domtar corprate still has not adressed our questions and concerns. |
